Victory for Baa Baaz team to honour mates

After twenty years the star-studded Baa Baaz team have finally won the annual January Whakatane touch tournament, winning 4-3 in the final.

Umaga gifted the Jerry Collins Memorial Shield for the winning restricted team and the Jonah Lomu Cup for the open grade champions.  He believed that it would be a great way to pay tribute to two former greats that he and so many of the team played along side.

"It didn't take much to decide that it was really for us to grow the legacy of these two guys that did a lot with us and mean a lot to us,"said Umaga.

The victory has extra meaning for the star studded team of former All Blacks from around the world who claimed back the trophy that Umaga gifted.

Umaga who was one of the founders of the team said about his team "The playing is really not the be all and end all.  Again it is the coming together in one place
to reconnect, talk about old times adn catch up wtih what they are doing now.

The tournament has been running for more than 30 years and features over 70 teams of all ages.
